Constructing the Metro Line No. 2 (the Bến Thành -Thủ Thiêm Section and Tham Lương - Tây Ninh Station - Urban Tây Bắc Củ Chi Area Section

  1. Location:

Districts 01, 02, 12, Củ Chi District and Hóc Môn District.

  1. Total land area:

  • Total length: 48km.

  • Section Bến Thành – Thủ Thiêm: 5.91 km

  • Section Tham Lương – Tây Ninh Depot: 3.2 km

  • Section Tây Ninh Depot - the North-Western Urban Area Củ Chi: 28 km and Hiệp Phước depot.

5. Project objectives:

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 18,321 billion (equivalent to US$ 833 million)

7. General information on the project

- National key projects.

- Section Bến Thành - Thủ Thiêm and section Tham Lương- Tây Ninh Depot under the project of Metro No. 2 (Thủ Thiêm- the North-Western Urban Area Củ Chi) including:

+ Section Bến Thành – Tham Lương.

+ Section Bến Thành - Thủ Thiêm and Tham Lương- Tây Ninh Depot

+ Section Tây Ninh Depot – the North-Western Urban Area Củ Chi.

- Under Decision no. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/04/2013 by the Prime Minister approving Planning for development of traffic and transport of Hồ Chí Minh City till 2020 and vision after 2020

+ Section Bến Thành- Thủ Thiêm: to extend the beginning point of Metro No.2 - section Bến Thành-Tham Lương, from Bến Thành station along Hàm Nghi road, crossing Sài Gòn river to Thủ Thiêm new urban area (under Decision No. 1556/QD-BGTVT dated 06/6/2013 of the Ministry of Transport approving the detailed plan for railways in the nodal area of Hồ Chí Minh City) with 6 stations.

+ Section Tham Lương- Tây Ninh Depot: to extend the ending point of Metro No. 2 - section Bến Thành - Tham Lương at

Tân Bình station, crossing Tham Lương Canal along Trường Chinh road, passing An Sương interchange and ending before Tây Ninh Depot, going overhead with 3 stations. Using Tham Lương depot together with Metro no. 2 (section Bến Thành -Tham Lương).

+ Section Tây Ninh Depot- the North-Western Urban Area Củ Chi: to extend the ending point of section Tham Lương – Tây Ninh Depot, about 700m from An Sương interchange to the North-West and ending at the North-Western Urban Area Củ Chi with 22 overhead stations. Hiệp Phước depot (Củ Chi) with area of 27.5 ha.

- Metro No. 2 will connect with Thủ Thiêm new urban area District 2 so the capacity to attract passengers to use this route will be very large; it’s easy to utilize stations along the route as trading centers.

10. NB:

- Bến Thành- Thủ Thiêm Section and Tham Lương - Tây Ninh Depot Section: It is expected to complete the pre-feasibility study report, set up the dossier for demarcation and deploy the field markers in the second quarter of 2016 and submit the National Assembly for approval of the investment policy and register with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to use ODA loans for the period of 2016-2020 for the project.

- The Tây Ninh Depot - the North-Western Urban Area of Củ Chi: It is expected that the making of the investment report is completed in 2016.

Constructing the Metro Line No. 3a (Bến Thành- Tân Kiên Station)

  1. Location:

Districts 1, 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, Bình Tân, Bình Chánh District

  1. Total land area:

  • Total length: 19.8 km.

  • Phase 01 (Bến Thành – existing Miền Tây Depot) of 9,7 km length

  • Phase 02 (Old Miền Tây Depot – Tân Kiên station) of about 10.1 km length and Tân Kiên depot.

5. Project objectives:

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 66,444 billion (equivalent to US$ 3000 million)

7. General information on the project

- National key projects.

- Under Decision No. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/4/2013 by the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning for development of traffic and transport of Hồ Chí Minh City till 2020 and vision after 2020:

+ Route direction: Bến Thành - Phạm Ngũ Lão - Cộng Hòa six-way intersection- Hùng Vương - Hồng Bàng - Kinh Dương Vương - Tân Kiên depot - Tân Kiên station.

+ Metro No. 3a has 17 stations (11 underground stations, 1 on-land station, 5 high-above stations).

+ The Project is expected to be divided into 02 phases:

• Phase 01 (Bến Thành – existing Miền Tây Depot): to go underground completely with 10 underground stations. Using Long Bình depot of Metro no.

• Phase 02 (Existing Miền Tây Depot – Tân Kiên station) and Tân Kiên depot : length: about 10.1 km with 7 stations, including 1 underground, 5 high-above stations and 01 on-land station. Tân Kiên depot at Bình Chánh District with area of 26.5 ha

- Oriented researches to extend the route No. 3a to connect to Tân An city (Long An province) from Hưng Nhơn station along NH 1.


  1. Form of investment:

- ODA, PPP (BOT, BOT combined with BT), etc.

- Formerly it was oriented to use preferential capital of the Government of Japan for the period of 2015-2017 according to the Official Letter No. 430/UBND-QLDA dated 23/01/2015.

10. NB:

- Phase 01 (Bến Thành – existing Miền Tây Depot) of 9.7 km long:

+ The City's People's Committee has approved the basic design. The demarcation and milestone documents have been approved and handed over to the local authority for planning management.

+ The project has been included in the list of projects using preferential loans of the Government of Japan, period of 2013-2015.

+ JICA has agreed to provide technical assistance to completely the project. It is expected that the project feasibility will be completed in late 2016, and in 2017 it will be submitted to the Prime Minister for ask the National Assembly for investment policy.

- Phase 02 (Old Miền Tây Depot – Tân Kiên station) of Tân Kiên depot.

+ Domestic consultant has completed the basic design.

+ In the future, the line will extend from Hưng Nhơn Station along NH 1 to Tân An City - Long An.

+ Currently, the Board is asking JICA for additional research together with the phase 1 of the project.

Constructing the Metro Line No. 3b (6-branch intersection Cộng Hòa - Hiệp Bình Phước)

  1. Location:

Districts 1, 3, 5, Bình Thạnh District and Thủ Đức District.

  1. Total land area:

  • 12.1 km and Hiệp Bình Phước depot.

5. Project objectives:

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 41,556 billion (equivalent to US$ 1,881million)

7. General information on the project

- National key projects.

- Under Decision No. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/4/2013 by the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning for development of traffic and transport of Hồ Chí Minh City till 2020 and vision after 2020:

+ Route direction: Cộng Hòa 6-way intersection – Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai – Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh – NH13 – Hiệp Bình Phước.

+ Metro No. 3b includes 9.1 km of underground line (8 underground stations) and 3 km of overhead line (2 overhead stations).

+ Orienting researches to extend the route No. 3b to connect with Thủ Dầu Một township (Bình Dương province) from Hiệp Bình station along NH 13; connect with the urban railway No. 1 of Bình Dương province.

+ Depot at Hiệp Bình Phước, Thủ Đức District with area of 20 ha.

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 77,700 billion (equivalent to US$ 3,532 million)

7. General information on the project

- National key projects.

- Under Decision no. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/04/2013 by the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning for development of traffic and transport of HCMC till 2020 and vision after 2020.

+ Route direction: Thạnh Xuân (District 12) – Hà Huy Giáp – Nguyễn Oanh – Nguyễn Kiệm – Phan Đình Phùng – Hai Bà Trưng – Bến Thành – Nguyễn Thái Học – Tôn Đản – Nguyễn Hữu Thọ – Hiệp Phước Urban Area.

+ Metro No. 4 has 33 stations (2 on-land stations, 16 high-above stations, 15 underground stations).

+ The route has Thạnh Xuân depot with area of 27 ha at the Ward

Thạnh Xuân, District 12 and Hiệp Phước depot with area of 20 ha at Hiệp Phước commune, Nhà Bè District in serve for parking and maintenance of trains.

- The project consultants suggested to divide the investment into 4 phases:

+ Phase 1a: Station at Gia Định park – Hoàng Diệu station, including depot at Gia Định park (L=6,375 km).

+ Phase 1b: Station at Gia Định park - Thạnh Xuân (L = 6,975 km).

+ Phase 1c: Hoàng Diệu station - Phước Kiểng station (L = 4.95 km).

+ Phase 2: Phước Kiểng station – station at Hiệp Phước harbor (L= 17,35m)

Constructing the Metro Line No. 4b (Gia Định Park Station - Lăng Cha Cả Station)

  1. Location:

Gò Vấp District, Tân Bình District.

  1. Total land area: 5.2 km2

5. Project objectives:

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 23,100 billion (equivalent to US$ 1,050 million)

7. General information on the project

- Under Decision No. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/04/2013 by the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning for development of traffic and transport of Hồ Chí Minh City till 2020 and vision after 2020.

+ Route direction: Station at Gia Định park (the route No. 4) - Nguyễn Thái Sơn - Hồng Hà - Tân Sơn Nhất international airport - Trường Sơn - Hoàng Văn Thụ Park – station at Cha Cả Mausoleum (the route No. 5).

+ Metro No. 4b will go underground, is a branch route connecting Metro No. 4 (Gia Định Park Station) and Metro No. 5 (Cha Cả Mausoleum Station) and Tân Sơn Nhất airport.

+ The route has a mini depot located at Hoàng Văn Thụ park over an area of 2 ha.

- Currently, the section from Tân Sơn Nhất airport to Lang Cha Cà mausoleum area of Metro No. 5 (Route 4b-1) is being supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) with technical assistance (TA) for project pre-feasibility study and feasibility study, expected to complete in 2017.

Constructing the Metro Line No. 5, Phase 2 (Bảy Hiền Intersection - Cần Giuộc Station) and Bình Chánh depot).

  1. Location:

Districts 5, 8, 10, 11 and Bình Chánh District, Tân Bình District, Phú Nhuận District, Bình Thạnh District.

  1. Total land area:

- Total length: 23.45 km

- Phase 2 (New Cần Giuộc depot – Bảy Hiền road-crossing) 14.56 km in length and Bình Chánh depot.



5. Project objectives:

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 55,000 billion (equivalent to US$ 2,500 million)

7. General information on the project

- National key projects.

- Under Decision No. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/04/2013 of

Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning for development of traffic and transport of HCMC till 2020 and vision after 2020:

+ Route direction: New Cần Giuộc depot – NH 50 – Cao Xuân Đức – Tùng Thiện Vương - Phù Đổng Thiên Vương – Lý Thường Kiệt – Bảy Hiền Intersection

+ The route has 8.56 km to go underground, 5.65 km to go high above and 0.35 km section of transition with 13 stations (8 underground stations and 5 high-above stations).

- Urban Railway Management Board is receiving and deploying the technical assistance (TA) provided by the Korean Export-Import Bank (KEXIM), including: prefeasibility study and feasibility study of the Metro line No. 5 - Phase 2 and the experience sharing program (KSP) for investment cooperation in the public-private form for the urban railway projects of the City.

- It is expected that the project feasibility will be completed to be submitted to the National Assembly for investment policy in 2017.

Project of investing in constructing Monorail No. 2 (NH 50 – Bình Quới Urban Area).

  1. Location:

District 2, District 7, Bình Chánh District, Bình Thạnh District.

  1. Total land area: 27.2 km2

The Project is to construct a system of urban railways, under the general planning of the city, in connecting with other public traffic system in the city and other commercial services, providing public transport services with big capacity, safety and friendly to environment.



6. The expected investment capital: VND 15,015 billion (equivalent to US$ 683 million)

7. General information on the project

- National key projects.

- Project of constructing Monorail No. 2 has been registered in the national list of projects to call for foreign investment till 2020 in form of PPP investment under Decision 631/QD-TTg dated 19/4/2014 by the Prime Minister.

- Under Decision No. 568/QD-TTg dated 08/04/2013 by the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning for development of traffic and transport of Hồ Chí Minh City till 2020 and vision after 2020.

+ Route direction: NH 50 - Nguyễn Văn Linh – Trần Nạo – Xuân Thủy - Bình Quới Urban Area (Bình Thạnh District).

+ In the future, Monorail No. 2 is oriented to connect with Metro no. 3a (Bến Thành – Tân Kiên).

+ Depot area is 5.9 ha at Nguyễn Văn Linh road.
