Abstract
Longan witches broom syndrome was caused directly by Eriophyes dimocarpi mite and its biological characteristics and population dynamics was studied in the laboratory and in the field conditions in 2015. E. dimocarpi had 4 stages including egg, 1st, 2nd instars and adult. The time of development periods of E. dimocarpi was strictly dependent on the temperature and relative humidity. At the average temperature 28.880C and 80.01% relative humidity, the average life cycle of E. dimocarpi was 13.97 days, average time of egg was 4.65 days; the average development time of the 1st and 2nd instars were 2.03 and 4.58 days, respectively; the average predeposition time was 2.71 days; an adult female laid 7.17 eggs in her whole life; and the adult longevity was 8.65 days. In the field condition of Hung Yen province in the year 2015, E. dimocarpi had 2 different peaks of population density: in the begining of April and the begining of October on Huong Chi ang Long longan varieties; and at the end April and the end of October on Khoai Chau and Ha Tay longan varieties.
