From a quarter past eight until after nine o’clock on June 24
th
, we had the
opportunity to spend some time alone with the Sayadaw. Sayagyi told Webu
Sayadaw that we would discrobe and go back to Yangon the next day because he
had his responsibilities towards his disciples, especially the foreign disciples, to
fulfil. If the opportunity arose, Sayagyi continued, he planned to go abroad to
teach meditation. He requested the Sayadaw to give him advice concerning the
spreading of the Teachings in foreign countries. The Sayadaw complied with this
request and explained the aspects that required special attention.

tôi đã có cơ hội để dành một ít thời gian riêng một mình với Đại Trưởng Lão.
Giáo Thọ đã bạch Đại Trưởng Lão Webu rằng chúng tôi muốn cởi y và đi về lại
Yangon vào ngày hôm sau, vì lẽ ông ta đã có và phải làm tròn trách nhiệm của
mình đối với những môn đệ của ông ta, một cách đặc biệt là các môn đệ nuớc
ngoài. Nếu có được cơ hội, Giáo Thọ lại tiếp tục, ông đã dự định đi ra nước ngoài
để giảng dạy thiền. Ông đã thỉnh cầu Đại Trưởng Lão cho ông ta lời khuyên nhủ
liên quan đến sự xiển dương về những Giáo Lý ở các nước ngoài. Đại Trưởng Lão
đã chiều thuận theo lời thỉnh cầu nầy và đã giải thích các khía cạnh mà nhất thiết
phải đặc biệt quan tâm đến.
Then I told the Sayadaw how I started practising Ànàpàna when I first
ordained, and how I had continued to meditate, first under Shwe – zedi Sayadaw,
then under Sayagyi U Ba Khin. “But Venerable Sir,” I continued, “there is one
thing that is not clear to me. I have been working hard in this field of meditation
for many years now, but if I compare my mind with other people’s minds, I have
