Eucommia ulmoides Oliv. (Family Eucommiaceae) also known as Du-Zhong (Vietnamese: Đỗ trọng, Japanese: Tuchong), is the sole species of the genus Eucommia. The leaf, stem, and bark of E. ulmoides have been traditionally used to cure many diseases impotence, hypertension, hyperlipemia, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease (AD), aging, and lupus-like syndrome. Phytochemical investigation of the ethyl acetate extract of the Eucommia ulmoides, which collected in Ha Giang province, led to the isolation of three iridoids genipin (1), geniposide (2), geniposidic acid (3) together with one lignan pinoresinol (4). Their chemical structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including NMR and ESI-MS, and by comparison with the literature data.
