Analysis Considering Actual RCC Placement and Comparison with in-situ
Measurements
In order to have a real case for analysis, the 2D numerical model was used to
simulate the actual construction process of the dam. The mesh represents the body of
the dam during construction time (from 143 m to 181.5 m) plus the foundation. The
dam actually is formed by 153 RCC lifts 0.3 m thick, the last lift is 0.4 m. The fiber
optic cables shown in Figure 2 were installed in Mujib dam to monitor the
temperature distribution in dam body. Figure 21 shows the actual average daily
temperature in Mujib site.
Figure 22 shows the placement of RCC schedule with time for Mujib Dam
including the time of installation of fiber optic cables and break period between RCC
layers. The placement temperature was used as it was recorded for each layer at time
of placement at the site. Other parameters for analysis including the coefficient of
thermal expansion, specific heat, heat of hydration, are taken from Tables 1 and 2.
