1. A thermal stress analysis using a finite element method showed that the
the dam body as predicted by numerical analysis are reasonable and predict
commercially available finite element program and the available laboratory
data, the incremental construction process of mass – concrete structure can be
modeled to produce results that can be used in practical applications. The
results from the analysis correlate closely with the actual thermal data
2. The thermal results of the two analyses (2D and 3D) are very close and there

3. At the early age RCC properties have a significant effect on peak stresses
developed in RCC dam body. A linear elastic model overestimates the
stresses.
4. Using the actual placement schedule and actual boundary conditions in finite
element analysis, will certainly lead to accurately determine the actual
maximum temperature anticipated in dam body.
5. Using the non-linear time dependent model for modulus of elasticity produces
better estimation for stresses in the dam body.
6. The actual approach is more superior to conventional approach, either for
temperature or stresses estimation.
