Sino-Vietnamese words account for 60-70% of Vietnamese modern vocabulary, which is an important
component of Vietnamese vocabulary. This is a great advantage for Vietnamese students to learn
Chinese. However, since Sino-Vietnamese have been introduced into Vietnam for a long time, these
words in modern Chinese have changed. After their i+ntroduction
into Vietnam, they have also changed
according to the development of Vietnamese language, which results in significant differences between
Sino-Vietnamese words and Chinese words respectively. This makes Vietnamese students make many
mistakes when translating directly from Sino-Vietnamese to Chinese. In this article, the writer analyzes
the results of a survey in students’ errors at School of Foreign Languages, TNU when translating
directly from Sino-Vietnamese to Chinese and suggests potential solutions to minimize errors.
