The paper introduces the main achievements in the study of biodiversity and investigation finding new species in biology (including paleontology) of the Vietnam National Museum of Nature’s research staff in the past 5 years. With few number of staff: 15 people (6 Doctors) in 2010, and 29 people (12 Doctors) in 2015, of the majors: plants, insects, parasites, reptiles, amphibians and fish), the staff chaired 23 projects at all levels (10 state level projects); Announced a total of 89 scientific works, including over 50 articles published in international journals ISI, as the results, discovered 77 new species for science (including 26 species and one plant genus; 26 species of reptiles, frogs, 13 species of insects, 8 species and 2 genus of parasites, four species of invertebrate fossil); More than 10 new records species for Vietnam’s the fauna and flora. The article also mentions achievements in research and application of molecular biology techniques in the identification of animals and plant species, clarifying the scientific name of some taxon. The research plays an important in research on evolutionary theory, species arising of some organisms groups in tropical conditions, building a genetic map, contributed significantly in building specimens collection for the Vietnam National Museum of Nature (especially the standard speciens collection of the new species, added to flora and fauna in Vietnam); clarified the scientific name of some new collected specimens at the Vietnam National Museum of Nature.
