Modeling Properties
Table 1 and Table 2 present the properties of RCC and rock foundation used
as input data for two and three dimensional analyses of thermal and structural
analyses. CVC properties were assumed to be the same as RCC properties, but with
different heat of hydration properties.
Modulus of Elasticity
At early age, the RCC temperature would vary significantly due to the heat of
hydration, and the corresponding large strains would generate significant stresses
depending on the elastic modulus. The in-situ stress-strain curves for RCC, shown in
Figure 9, were used in the numerical analysis to incorporate the change in the
modulus of elasticity with time for RCC. By including the changes in modulus of
elasticity and temperature variations in the dam body, the prediction of zero stress
temperature would then be possible.
