Robert Falcon Scoyy, the most famous of British polar explorers, was born in Devonport, Britain in 1868. Because he had failed to reach the South Pole in 1908, Scott decided to make a second attempt. When Scott had chosen 40 men to take part in the expedition, his ship, the Terra Nova, set off from Plymouth.
