Abstract
: Luong Son is considered to be an area of remaining natural vegetation with great value
of biodiversity. Using a combination of research methods, we analyzed and assessed the basic
characteristics of the 13 ecosystems (7 natural and 6 artificial); recorded 1751 species of vascular
plants, 63 species of floating plants, 42 species of mammals, 98 birds, 33 reptiles, 20 amphibians, 40
species of fish, 61 species of zoobenthic, 469 species of insects. However, the ecosystems are strongly
affected by the economic and social activities (mining, tourism…). Those impacts facilitated
expansion of invasive species by competing and replacing the species in native communities,
especially Big-sage Lantana camara, Giant sensitive tree Mimosa pigra, Siam weed Chronolaena
odorata
, Water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes, Channeled applesnail Pomacea canaliculata.
Biodiversity research in this area is significant in terms of both scientific and practical, forming a basis
for sustainable development of the territory.
