BUDDHIST EPITAPHS IN THE EARLY LÊ DYNASTY
Đinh Khắc Thuân
In general, the epitaph materials in the Early Lê dynasty were rare.
It was the period
of Confucianism, which was associated with the established and flourishing centralized
regime under the reign of Emperor Lê Thánh Tông in the second half of the 15th century.
When Confucianism was promoted, Buddhism was limited. As
a result, the research work
on materials related to Buddhism in the Early Lê period was negligible.
On the occasion of some new discoveries on materials
of Buddhist epitaphs of the
Early Lê dynasty, the author has systematically documented the epitaph materials of this
period.
In addition, he outlined the general characteristics, as well
as the value of Buddhist
epitaph materials at this stage.
