HĐS xem thiên nhiên như là một di sản. Người HĐ giữ gìn thiên nhiên cho chính mình và cho người khác. HĐS không xả rác nơi sông hồ, đồng cỏ, rừng núi và đường xá. HĐS phòng ngừa hỏa hoạn. Người HĐ chỉ đốt lửa nơi an toàn. Khi xong với lửa, thì dập tắt hoàn toàn. Người HĐ chỉ để lại một vòng lửa sạch sẽ hay không còn một vết tích của tàn lửa. HĐS tôn trọng đất đai công cộng cũng như tư hữu. HĐS gây ảnh hưởng tối thiểu cho thiên nhiên khi thám du hay cắm trại. HĐS luôn học và thực hành cách bảo vệ đất nước, núi rừng, khoáng chất, dồng cỏ, sinh vật, và năng luợng. HĐS luôn khích lệ mọi người đều làm như thế.
I will treat the outdoors as a heritage. I will take care of it for myself and others. I will keep my trash and garbage out of lakes, streams, fields, woods, and roadways. I will prevent wildfires. I will build my fires only where they are appropriate. When I have finished using a fire, I will make sure it is cold-out. I will leave a clean fire ring, or remove all evidence of my fire. I will treat public and private property with respect. I will use low-impact methods of hiking and camping. I will learn how to practice good conservation of soil, waters, forests, minerals, grasslands, wildlife, and energy. I will urge others to do the same.

Dấu hiệu HĐ
Scout sign
Dấu hiệu HĐ là cách cho biết ta là hướng đạo. Ta cần đưa dấu hiệu HĐ khi đọc lời hứa và điều luật. Khi một người HĐ đưa dấu hiệu HĐ thì tất cả mọi người khác cũng đều đưa dấu hiệu và tất cả đầu yên lặng trongchú ý.
The Scout sign shows that you are a Scout. Give it each time you recite the Scout Oath and Law. When a Scoutraises the Scout sign, all Scouts should make the sign, too, and come to silent attention.
Khi đưa dấu hiệu hướng đạo thì ta để ngón tay cái trên ngón tay út. Đưacánh tay phải lên ngang và xếp thành chử U-90 độ. Ba ngón taychụm lại và hướng lên trời với lòng bàn tay hướng về phiá trước. Ba ngón tay tượng trưng cho 3 lời hứa HĐ. Ngón tay cái và út đụng nhauhiện diện sự đoàn kết của người HĐ của toàn thế giới. Đối với người HĐ Việt Nam, ngón tay cái đặt trên ngón tay út nhắc nhở ta luôn che chở cho người yếu hơn mình.
To give the Scout sign, cover the nail of the little finger of your right hand with your right thumb, then raise your right arm bent in a 90-degree angel, andhold the three middle fingers of your hand upward. Those fingers stand for the three parts of the Scout Oath. Your thumb and little finger touch to represent the bond that unites Scouts throughout the world. For the Vietnamese scout, the right thumb over the little finger is to remind us to protect the weak.

Scout salute and handshake
•Salute:
The Scout salute shows respect. Use it to salute the flag of the United States of America. You may also salute a Scout leader or another scout.
Give the Scout salute by forming the Scout sign with your right hand and then bringing that hand upward until your forefinger touches the brim of your hat or the arch of your right eyebrow. The palm of your hand should not show.
•Handshake:
The Scout handshake is made with the hand nearest the heart and is offered as a token of friendship. Extend your left hand to another Scout and firmly grasp his left hand. The fingers do not interlock.

Your physical and mental health heavily influences your well-being, your life, and the lives of those around you; therefore, to be at your best, it is necessary to be conscientious about factors that influence your health. Such factors include your diet, level of physical activity, personal hygiene, amount and quality of sleep. It is important to avoid or limit junk food, drugs, excessive amount of video games/television, and other factors that adversely affect your health. When it comes to your health and well-being, balance and self-discipline are keys. A healthy diet is a balanced diet with proportional amounts of all food groups, physical activity and exercise is good as long as it is not too easy or too strenuous. It is possible to have too much or too little sleep. Also, keep in mind that your physical health often influences your mental health and vice versa; if you are healthy, you will tend to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Luôn mở mang trí tuệ (Continuously expand my knowledge and challenge myself/work towards self-betterment). In working towards receiving your khăn/neckerchief, you have already demonstrated your drive to expand your knowledge and to improve yourself. Don’t stop there. Establish goals and strive to achieve them. From here, you can work to achieve your Silver/Gold Award, become an Eagle Scout, or your Khoá ** Tuyên Hưá. Challenge yourself in school and strive for good grades. Be curious and learn how things work. Work to break a bad habit or form a good one. The sky’s the limit!
Giúp đoàn được vững mạnh (Contribute to your troop to continue the legacy). As a member of Chi Lăng, you have the opportunity to contribute to the troop. There are many ways to contribute such as being a positive role model. Teach and live the scout values. Motivate and help others to better themselves as you have. You have the ability to make Chi Lang a strong organization that will be around for generations to come.

Nói chuyện với Đội/Tuần Trưởng hay Trưởng Đoàn để biết rõ đồng phục.
Đồng phục tượng trưng cho người HĐ. Dù bộ đồng phục cũ hay mới, người HĐ luôn giữ đồng phục sạch sẽ và mặc một cách hãnh diện và nghiêm chỉnh. Khi mặt đồng phục, người HĐ đạo chứng tỏ mình là anh chị em với các HĐ khác, không phân biệt giai cấp (status) hay giầu nghèo (rich-poor) vì chúng ta đều mặc đồ giống nhau. Đồng phục HĐ còn cho người ta biết rằng mình luôn sắp sẵn để giúp ích kẻ khác. Đồng phục có hai loại: A.Chính thức. B.Phụ: áo thung đoàn. Đồng phục chính thức phải mặc trong phần lớn sinh hoạt HĐ. Khi sinh hoạt đất trại hay thể thao thì mặc đồng phục phụ. Trưởng đoàn sẽ cho biết khi nào ta được mặc đồng phục A hay B trước khi sinh hoạt.

The uniform is an emblem of Scouting. It might be brand new, or it may be an experienced uniform already worn by a brother Scout to many meetings and campouts. Old or new, wear your uniform proudly whenver you are taking part in Scout activities. By dressing alike, Scout show they are equals. Your uniform is also a sign to yourself and to others that you are a person who can be trusted. You can be counted on to lend a hand when help is needed. There are two type of uniform: A) Official activities or B) troop T-shirt. Most activities required the A uniform. B uniform can be worn for sport activities or during breaks at camps. Your troop leader will let you know of Class A or B before each activities.

Sinh hoạt ngoài trời
Living outdoor
Có còi, áo mưa, đèn pin, bandaids trong túi & và biết “hug a tree” khi lạc trong rừng.
Carry a whistle, light rain coat, small flash light, bandaids in pockets & “hug a tree” when lost in the wood.
Khi đi lạc nơi rừng núi, chúng ta cần phải bình tĩnh, ở yên một chỗ (dưới một cây to), giữ cho người ấm. Sẽ có người tìm đến mình. Không nên đi hay chạy trong rừng vì sẽ khiến những tìm khó thấy hơn hay dễ bị té và bị thương. Hãy làm theo những điểm được chỉ dẫn phía dưới.
When you are lost in the wood, you must be calm, remain at one place (under a large tree) and keep your body warm. The search team will find you.
Luôn có trong túi áo hay quần một bao rác to và sạch (hay áo mưa nhẹ-có tại Walmart), vài bandaid, đèn pin nhỏ và còi khi đi picnic, thám du hay cắm trại
Thông báo với trưởng khi rời khỏi khu sinh hoạt và theo phương pháp 3 người bạn.
Khi bị lạc trong núi rừng, tìm một cây lớn và ở yên tại đó. Luôn bình tĩnh.
Giữ cho người được ấm và khô bằng cách khoác bao rác lên người (hay áo mưa). Khoét một lỗ chỗ mặt để không bị nghộp
Cách vài phút thổi còi một lần để những người đang tìm có thể biết mình đang ở đâu. Dùng đèn pin khi trời tối khi cần phải thấy mọi vật chung quanh nhưng vẫn ở yên một chỗ.
Always carry a clean trash bag (or light rain coat), band-aids, small flash light and whistle in your pocket for picnics, hiking or camping.
Always tell a leader where you are going, whenever you are leaving your group and always follow the 3 buddy system.
If lost, find a big tree, "hug-a- tree" and stay put. Remain calm.
Keep warm and dry by putting a trash bag over your body. Make a hole on the side of trash bag for your face.
Blow the whistle every few minutes so the search team can find you.Use your flash light as needed to see the surroundings at night but stay put.

DISTRESS SIGNAL
Khi đã biết chắc là mình đã đi lạc, ở yên một chỗ và chờ cho người cứu tìm đến mình. Mình có thể giúp cho người ta tìm mình dễ hơn bằng cách để dấu hiệu rõ ràng. Dùng những dấu khẩn cấp sau:
If you are completely lost, stay put and wait for rescuers to find you. It would be easier for the rescuers to find you if you have a visible signal. Use distress signals to attract attention:
Treo cờ, túi ngủ hay chăn mầu tươi sáng trên cây cao.
Dùng tín hiệu quốc tế, bất cứ loại nào được lập lại 3 lần: ba tiếng hô, ba tiếng còi dài, ba tiếng súng, ba hàng khói.
Dùng kính hay nắp lon sáng chiếu ngang chân trời. Máy bay có thể thấy ánh nắng phản chiếu, cho dù trời có âm u.
S-O-S bằng Morse, cờ, áo, đèn, kính, còi hay ra-dzô.
Đặt những dấu hiệu khẩn cấp ở trên một khu đất trống. Vẽ to trên tuyết, sắp đá or dùng một phần của lều, tấm trải hay quần áo. Sau khi đã làm xong dấu, dấu khẩn cấp sẽ giúp báo hiệu dù ta có đi ngủ hay đang bị ốm. Nên nhớ dẹp sạch các dấu hiệu khi ta không cần nữa.
Fly a brightly colored flag, sleeping bag, or blanket from a tree
Use the universal signal, which is any kind of signal repeated 3 times: Three shouts, three blasts of a whistle, three gunshots, three columns of smoke.
Sweep the horizon with a mirror or a bright can lid. Airplanes may see the flash of reflected sunlight, even if the day is a little hazy.
S-O-S with Morse code, flag, shirt signal, lantern, mirror, bugle, whistle or radio.
Set up ground signal below. Make it in an open area near camp. Tramp out the following shapes in snow sand, line up rocks or use parts of tents, ground cloths, and clothing. Once in place, this signal will work even if you are asleep or ill. Remove all trace of your signals when you no longer need them.

Hiểu & thực hành phương pháp 3 người
3 buddy system.
Các HĐ sinh và tham dự viên của LĐ Chi Lăng cần phải theo đúng phương ba người khi đi xa đất trại, đội, nhóm hay nơi sinh hoạt. Buddy system của LĐ Chi Lăng gồm có 3 người để nâng cao sự an toàn. Với 3 người, chúng ta có thể hỗ trợ lẫn nhau khi cần thiết. Khi khẩn cấp như một người bị thương, một người ở lại cứu thương và người có thể chạy đi cầu cứu. Nhóm 3 người cũng có thể chống lại thú dữ hay người xấu một cách dễ dàng. Nhiều đầu óc vẫn hay hơn. Tất cả cần phải thông báo với trưởng (nhóm) của mình khi rời nhóm và cho biết rõ là đi đâu và bao lâu. Phương pháp 3 người cũng có thể dùng khi học chương trình thăng tiến vì học chung vui hơn và có thể khích lệ nhau cùng học và cùng tiến.
Scouts and siblings of LĐ Chi Lăng must follow the buddy system anywhere outside their campsite, unit, and group or activities area. Always stay in group of 3 to enhance the safety. With 3, you can provide support to each others. In case of emergencies, such as one person being injured, one can provide first-aid and the other can go for help. A group of 3 can also fend off wild animals or strangers much more effectively. The more heads the better. Tell other adults in the campsite when you are leaving the group, where to and for how long. 3-buddy system can also be used for advancement programs. It is more fun to have partners to learn and advance together. You all can encourage each others.
