Lecture 3 Professional ethics of translator. The aim of this lecture is to expand and deepen students knowledge about translators ethics, The objectives are: - to define the concept of ethics; - to study the history of attempts of translator ethics postulates creation - to define the main constituents of translators ethics - to define how translators ethics affects the quality of translation - and to present a number of basic rules of translator's ethics Representatives of any profession have their own norms and rules of behavior. With the help of these norms and rules the profession asserts its place in society and society in response influences the ethics of profession. Any profession has its own moral standards and laws of professional behavior that cannot be violated. Translation ethics is a certain set of unwritten rules of behavior for a translator in the course of professional activity primarily in relations with the translation customer, other participants of the event, as well as with translators colleagues. The existing translation ethics is focused on creating a positive image of the translator in the eyes of a customer, compliance with decent written rules and regulations increases the guarantee that the next time the customer will invite this translator again. In recent years the recognition of the need to formulate the principles of translation ethics affirming the owner of a profession is reflected in numerous publications devoted to translation. They were taken seriously by different well-known interpreters like Palazhchenko P., Chuzhakin A., Miram G., Pago A., Minyar-Beloruchev R.K.. Theorist and translation practitioner Minyar Beloruchev has repeatedly addressed ethical issues. However, the latest publications still do not give us a coherent idea of the professional ethics of a translator. So, professional ethics is necessary for the translator but what does it consist of? It includes moral principles, norms of professional behavior, requirements of professional suitability, knowledge of the legal status of a translator. The moral principles of translator, that is evaluation of what the translator can and cannot do is not a simple task. Compliance with ethical standards in case of interpretation significantly affects the result. Since interpretation is work in direct contact with people the translator is primarily required to comply with the rules of ethics of communication and it is included in almost any professional ethics.
