Brown seaweed waste is a byproduct from the process of extracting alginate and containing large amounts of cellulose. The amount of waste during the alginate processing is very high around 6 tonnes of waste over 1 ton of product. Seaweed waste is treated with dilute sulfuric acid followed by hydrolysis with enzymes Celiac Tech2. Under optimum conditions of the process with dilute acid pretreatment (0.1%, 1200C, 1h) then hydrolyzation by the enzyme (500C, pH 5.0, 50h) the highest obtained glucose is 215 mg / g. Transformation of hydrolyzed products into ethanol by Saccharomyces cerevisiae 7028 V at room temperature for 36h achieved yield of 46.9%, equivalent to 92% of theoretical yield. These results showed that the seaweed waste is promising potential raw material for the production of bioethanol.
