These were a list of seven of the most outstanding cultural landmarks on the planet. Among them were the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Unfortunately, try to visit any of the Seven Wonders of the World today and you'll be disappointed. For the amazing thing about them all is that - apart from the Great Pyramid of Giza - all were destroyed by earthquakes. For example, the Lighthouse of Alexandria fell victims to several earthquakes before its final collapse in AD 642. However, don't worry. Thanks to an organization called the New7Wonders (N7W), we now have a new list of "must-see" places. N7W launched their campaign by harnessing the Internet to reach the widest number of people possible. In fact, this is the most impressive aspect of their whole campaign: they conducted the first ever global electronic election! People voted from a list of nominees drawn up by N7W as potential contenders for the New Seven Wonders of the World. The organization then selected 21 cultural landmarks that received the most votes from people worldwide in the first round of voting. A second round of voting determined the winners. On July 7, 2007, the new Seven Wonders of the World were announced.
