2 systems: Federal court and state Court
District courts are the federal courts where trials (both civil and criminal
cases involving witnesses and juries) are held and lawsuits are begun.
Appeals courts review decisions made in lower district courts [12 circuits +

Federal Circuit, which has nationwide jurisdiction]. The judges may
uphold (AGREE), reverse (disagree) or 3) remand (send it back to the lower
court to be tried again) the case.
Eight associate justices and one chief justice make up
the Supreme court.
The president appoints
Supreme Court justices, with Senate approval
