Quy tắc 2: Đa số các danh từ và tình từ có 2 âm tiết thì trọng âm chính được nhấn vào âm tiết thứ nhất.

Quy tắc 3: Một số từ vừa mang nghĩa danh từ hoặc động từ thì trọng âm chính nhấn vào âm tiết thứ nhất.Nếu là động từ thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2.

Quy tắc 4: Danh từ ghép có trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết đầu tiên.

Quy tắc 5: Tính từ ghép có trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ nhất.

Nhưng nếu là tính từ ghép mà từ đầu tiên là tính từ hoặc trạng từ hoặc kết thúc là đuôi ED thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm thứ 2.

Quy tắc 6: Động từ ghép có trọng âm nhấn vào âm thứ 2

Quy tắc 7: Các tính từ tận cùng là:ANT,ABLE,AL,ENT,FUL,LESS,Y thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết đầu tiên.

Quy tắc 8: Các từ kết thúc là :HOW,WHAT,WHERE thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ thứ nhất. Quy tắc 9: Các từ kết thúc là đuôi EVER thì trọng âm nhấn chính vào âm đó.


Quy tắc 10: Các từ có 2 âm tiết tận cùng là ER thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ nhất.

Quy tắc 11: Các từ có 2 âm tiết bắt đầu là A thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm thứ 2.

Quy tắc 12: Các từ tận cùng là đuôi; IC, ICS,IAN,TION,SION thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm thứ 2 từ cuối lên.

Quy tắc 13: Các từ tận cùng là đuôi: CY,TY,PHY,ICAL thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm thứ 3 từ cuối lên. Quy tắc 14: Các từ có 2 âm tiết kết thúc là đuôi ATE thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết đầu tiên.


Nếu là từ có từ 3 âm trở lên thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm thứ 3 từ cuối lên.

Quy tắc 15: Các từ tận cùng là các đuôi :ADE,EE,ESE,EER,EETE,OO,OON,AIRE,IQUE thì trọng âm nhấn vào chính các âm này.

Ngoại lệ: commitee có trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2.

Quy tắc 16: Tất cả các trạng từ kết thúc là đuôi LY đều có trọng âm nhấn vào tính từ của chúng.

Quy tắc 17: Đa số các động từ có 2 âm tiết thì trọng âm chính được nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2

Quy tắc 18: Các từ chỉ số lượng thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết cuối nếu có kết thúc là đuôi TEEN.

Quy tắc 19: Các tiền tố không bao giờ có trọng âm mà thường nhấn trọng âm vào âm thứ 2.

Quy tắc 20: Đối với các hậu tố trọng âm có thể thay đổi theo từ gốc (và nếu có sự thay đổi và trọng âm thì cũng có thể thay đổi về các phát âm).

I TỪ CÓ HAI ÂM TIẾT	+ Động từ và tính từ: Nếu âm tiết thứ hai là một âm tiết mạnh (có chứa một nguyên âm dài, nguyên âm đôi, hoặc một nguyên âm và một hay nhiều phụ âm) thì trọng âm thường nằm ở âm tiết thứ hai: Verbs: be’lieve, a’rrive, a’ttract Adjectives: u’nique, di’vine, in’tact Nếu âm tiết thứ hai là một âm tiết yếu (có chứa những âm ) thì trọng âm thường nằm ở âm tiết thứ nhất: Verbs: ’enter, ’envy, ’follow. Adjectives: ’handsome, ’lazy, ’hollow + Danh từ: Nếu âm tiết thứ hai có chứa một nguyên âm ngắn thì trọng âm thường nằm ở âm tiết thứ nhất: ’money, ’product, ’pretty Nếu âm tiết thứ hai là một nguyên âm dài hay một nguyên âm đôi thì trọng âm thường nằm ở âm tiết thứ hai: ma’chine, ba”lloon, es’tate
II TỪ CÓ BA ÂM TIẾT	+ Từ ba âm tiết thường có trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ nhất: ’cinema, ’calendar + Nếu âm tiết thứ nhất là tiền tố, trọng âm thường nằm ở âm tiết thứ hai; nếu âm tiết thứ nhất và thứ hai là tiền tố, trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ ba: ab’normal, a’ttentive, co’nnective, em’power, disa’pprove, disco’nnect
III TỪ CÓ BỐN	+ Từ có bốn hoặc trên bốn âm tiết thường có trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ nhất (nếu không có những hậu tố đặc biệt được nêu ở các quy tắc IV, V, VI: ’necessary, ’difficulty, ’literature

HOẶC TRÊN BỐN ÂM TIẾT	+ Khi một từ được tạo lập bằng cách thêm một hay nhiều tiền tố hoặc hậu tố (ngoại trừ những hậu tố được nêu ở các quy tắc IV, V, VI) vào từ gốc thì trọng âm của từ ấy cũng là trọng âm của từ gốc: ’question  un’questionable; re’spect  disre’spectful; ’nation  inter’national; ’lucky  un’luckily; ’happy  un’happiness
IV	Những từ có các hậu tố sau đây thường có trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ ba kể từ sau tới: ous: ad’venturous; au’tonomous; u’nanimous Exceptions: e’normous; tre’mendous; mo’mentous tude: ’latitude; ’attitude; ’longitude; ’fortitude ate: e’xaggerate ; ’allocate; ’illustrate; dis’criminate; ’demonstrate ize/ise: ’modernize; revo’lutionize; ’normalize fy: dis’qualify; ’satisfy; e’lectrify
V	Những từ có các hậu tố sau đây có trọng âm ở âm tiết đứng ngay trước hậu tố ấy: ety/ - ity: va’riety; ca’pacity; cap’tivity; co’mmunity; invisi’bility ia: ’Asia; - ial: co’mmercial; - ian: elec’trician; - iance: lu’xuriance; - iar: fa’miliar; - ical: e’lectrical; icant: sig’nificant; - ience (cy): im’patience/de’ficiency; -ient: o’bedient; - ion: cri’terion; - ior: in’ferior; - ium: har’monium. Exceptions: eti’quette esque : gro’tesque ; humou’resque ; pictu’resque
