The equipment is accessed using specialized software for
the development and testing of wireless devices LabVIEW
Communications System Design Suite. BS prototyping
requires that the testbed include certain hardware and software
facilities depending on the BS type as listed further.
A. BS type 1-С
The structure of the BS type 1-C prototype should include:
• transmitting module (BS Cabinet);
• transmitter amplifier (if necessary);
• transmitter filter (if necessary);
• antenna unit;
• receiving module (BS Cabinet);
• low-noise amplifier (if necessary);
• receiver filter (if necessary).
Software of the BS type 1-C prototype should include:
• software for antenna unit control;
• software for digital signal processing of the transmitting
module;
• software for digital signal processing of the receiving
module;
• software for processing the received data and data
transmission through the output interfaces of the BS;
• BS control software that provides initial loading and
control of BS units.
As a transmitting module a telecommunication cabinet
RMX-10011 was used with blocks USRP-2943R, PXI Chassis
PXIe-1085, PXI Controller PXIe-8135, 8Gb RAM Upgrade,
PXI FPGA Module PXIe-7976, PXI Synchronization Module
PXIe-6674T, 8-Channel Clock Distribution Accessory CDA-
2990, PXI Bus Extension Module PXIe-8384, Switch Device
for PCI Express CPS-8910 as illustrated in Fig.2. For
prototyping transmitter amplifier and transmitter filter are not
used, therefore USRP-2943R connects directly to antenna
VERT2450. Receiving module has the same structure.
B. BS type 1-Н
The structure of the BS type 1-H prototype should include:
• transceiver unit array;
• composite antenna.
Software of the BS type 1-H prototype should include:
• software for composite antenna system control;
• software for digital signal processing;
• software for processing the received data and data
transmission through the output interfaces of the BS;
• BS control software that provides initial loading and
control of BS units.

BS type 1-H prototype has similar structure with 1-C
though it has many USRP modules as illustrated in Fig.3.
Because of the absence of composite antenna the BS
parameters are defined on the USRP outputs.
C. 5G BS primary prototyping results
The experiment was conducted at a frequency 2.35 GHz
(NR operating band – n 40) [4]. The level of the emitted signal
is 23.5 dBm, which corresponds to the Local Area class BS.
The signal bandwidth is 20 MHz with the spacing between the
subcarriers of the OFDM symbol at 15 kHz. As a receiving
module a similar system with 12 receiving antennas was used.
Comparison of the obtained characteristics was carried out
for MIMO 16x2, 16x4, 16x8, 16x12. The results are shown in
Table 5.
