tetramethylethylenediamine [18] have been used as modifying agents for the
preparation of cationic cellulose. Quaternized modified cationized cellulose was
prepared and used as an adsorbent to purify dye wastewater.
For example, a wheat
straw-based adsorbent was prepared by a chemical modification method using
cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as a modifier, and the effect of the adsorbent on the
purification of Congo red dye wastewater was investigated. The adsorption of Congo
red by wheat straw was stronger than that of unmodified wheat straw [9]. Therefore,
quaternary ammonium salts are used as a cationization modified agent for the
modification and derivatization of cellulose to prepare high performance cationized
cellulose adsorbents for the purification of dye wastewater is feasible, which has good
values of scientific research and practical application.
In this study, rice husks was used as raw material to extract and separate the rice
husks cellulose by alkali treatment and bleaching treatment. The rice husks cellulose
was modified with N, N-dimethyl-1-octadecylamine as modifying agent to prepare
cationized rice husks cellulose. The adsorption properties of Diamine Green B
(DG-B), Acid Black 24 (AB-24), and Congo Red (CR) with different molecular
structures onto cationized rice husks cellulose were studied. The mechanism of
molecular interaction between the functional groups in the cationized rice husks
cellulose molecular structure and the groups in the dye molecular structure were
discussed. The samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
(FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The
adsorption kinetics and equilibrium adsorption behaviors were analyzed to understand
the adsorption mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters were also calculated.
