The credit-based curriculum of undergraduate program in english

Basic Listening 1 helps students to become familiar and practise listening comprehension skills step by step. This course consists of 14 units including a number of topics, situations related to daily life such as number and address, names and places, times and dates, ….

This is one of the prerequisite modules in the training programme for English majors. It includes 2 sections. Section 1 aims to equip the students with basic knowledge and practice of English pronunciation rules. Section 2 aims at familiarizing the students with communicative activities in speaking classes.

5. English Grammar 1 (2 credits)

This compulsory course aims to help students understand different kinds of spoken and written texts and communicate in French at the elementary level. This course also provides students with the knowledge of social culture and that of French such as lexicology – semantics, pronunciation, grammar, etc.

Basic Listening 2 provides a listening process by creating active thinking and listening skills. This course consists of 14 units arranged on the basis of themes or topics describing daily life: health, travel and tourism, festivals and holidays ....

This is the second module on English speaking skills. It aims to help the students practice using English in daily conversations to make greetings/ requets, give offers, ask for information/ permission, etc. It includes simple speaking activities on topics such as Friendship, Keeping fit, Travelling, Student life, etc.

This compulsory course aims to help students understand different kinds of spoken and written texts and communicate in French at the pre-intermediate level. This course also provides students with the knowledge of social culture and that of French such as lexicology – semantics, pronunciation, grammar, etc.

There are suitable listening exercises to help learners quickly improve the listening skills through the language materials selected from the situations in real life. This course consists of 14 units including topics such as: Advertisements, the Internet, conservation, ....

This is the third module on English speaking skills. Its aim is to provide the students with speaking activities in which they express their opinion by answering suggested questions on topics such as Foreign language learning, Self-study, Students and part-time job, Books, Country life and City life, Computer, Internet, etc.

This course deals with the descriptions and classifications of sounds in English, namely vowels and consonants basing on the features and manner of articulation, and discusses the rules of articulation and sound variables.

This compulsory course aims to provide students with the knowledge of social culture and that of French such as lexicology – semantics, pronunciation, grammar, etc. so that the students can understand more about France and other European countries.

Advanced Listening 1 aims to teach students practical strategies before they listen to lectures. The lectures are shorter and easier to understand. This course consists of 14 units including a number of common and practical topics in daily life such as biology, history, art ...

This is the fourth module on English speaking skills. The course aims to help the students improve their oral fluency through discussing social issues of general interest and have them work cooperatively in class to solve problems on topics such as Love, Environment, Smoking, Careers, etc.

“Advanced Listening 2” aims to give students practical strategies before they listen to lectures. The lectures in this module are similar to the ones taught in class. In this course, students can also listen to the news in English. This course consists of 14 items relating to daily life.

This is the 5^th module on English speaking skills. The course aims to help the students improve their oral fluency through debates on topics such as Health care, Sports, Education, Tourism, etc. and providing them with basic techniques of giving a presentation using posters.

Advanced Listening 3 is designed to bring students with appropriate strategies when they take the TOEFL, IELTS or similar examinations. The exercises are designed in the format of the exams for international certificate such as TOEFL, IELTS, but shorter and easier to understand. This course consists of 14 units.

This is the last of the 6 compulsory modules on English speaking. The course aims to help the students analyze and have a deeper understanding about social issues, raising the students’ awareness of the changes in modern society and helping the students to develop teamwork skills and speech delivery skills.

This course gives an introduction of some basic definitions and terms such as words and their origins, morphological structure of English words; and deals with the meanings and some issues related to its study. Students are expected to understand word meanings, sentence meanings and meaning relationships.

This course aims to provide these students with the knowledge about second language learning and approaches and methods, widely used from the eighteenth century to present: The Grammar-Translation Method, Direct Method, Situational Language Learning, Audiolingual Method, Communicative Language Teaching and Natural Approach.

This course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of linguistics such as  the nature and function of language, langue and parole, speech and writing. It also covers a wide range of different viewpoints and terms such as synchronic vs diachronic study, sentence vs utterance, deixis, reference, dialects or jargon.

This is a compulsory course for students of English, following the prerequisite courses in language elements and skills.This course provides basic knowledge about a wide range of issues related to research and research methodology in language learning, writing a research paper, and the popular writing style of research - APA.

This course aims to provide students with basic linguistic concepts and translation strategies such as translation of unequivalent words, expressions, newspaper-titles, sentences with impersonal subjects (mainly from English into Vietnamese), and of names of organizations; and helps them practise translating texts about tourism, education, economy, etc.

The focus of this course is to provide students with knowledge, pschological aspects, linguistic elements of contrastive analysis in languistics. Morever, the course deals with the contrastive analysis of language; the application in language teaching, learning and translation with the focus on the similarities and differences between English and Vietnamese.

This course aims to provide knowledge about a wide range of issues related to the practice of the communicative and learner-centered teaching of English as a foreign language such as using visual aids, teaching language elements and language skills, preparation, communicative activities, and classroom management.

This is an overview of English literature in its six main periods on such aspects as trends, types, characteristics, themes and typical authors and their works, and on events that have considerible effects on the English literature

The course aims to help the students understand the key terms in tourism and practise communication skills, covering the most important areas of travel agency, tour operation, guiding skills. Besides, students are required to present the tourist attractions in Vietnam as well as in the world.

This course discusses intralingual, paralingual and extralingual aspects manifested in cross-culture and in-culture communication with a specific focus on cross-culture pragmatics, which covers a wide range of different terms such as politeness, directness-indirectness, power in communication with the reference to the theoretical background and studies of Hofstede, Brown & Levinson, etc.

This course provides students with basic understanding of British people and culture. Moreover, this module presents information about the history of British from Pre-Norman Britain to the present time; British Institutions: constitution, Monarchy, Legislature, Executive, elections and political parties; Judiciary; British education system and traditional culture. 

This course provides students with basic understanding of American people and culture: a brief history of the United States of America, its political institutions and educational system. Another purpose is to introduce students to some other aspects of the United States, such as traditional values, customs and beliefs, and holidays;

This course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of structures of English discourse and conversation in the influence of culture and ideology. It focuses on cohesion and coherence in language, the effects of roles and relationships of the participants on the selection of suitable language and information structure.

Pragmatics, a branch of modern linguistics, focuses on the study of how language works in the real life. This course enables students to have skills of discourse analysis, understanding of meanings in context so as to enhance their communicative efficiency.

This is an elective module in the training programme for English majors. The course aims to equip the students with basic understanding of English used in newspaper articles on different areas of topics, enriching the students’ English vocabulary used in the press and helping them improve their advanced reading skills.

This is an elective module in the training programme for English majors. The course aims to provide the students with law terminology and help them improve their advanced reading skills. This module includes 10 chapters about state law, administrative law, civil law, company law.

46. ENGLISH FOR ECONOMICS

This is a compulsory module in the training programme for English majors. The course aims to provide the students with knowledge about such economic issues as definition of economics, economic systems, microeconomics and macroeconomics, organization of the market economy, supply and demand, prices and income

This course is an optional module for English majors. The course aims to develop the communication skills that the students need to succeed in realistic management and business situations. It enlarges knowledge of the business in the areas of trade, marketing, finance - money investment.

This compulsory course aims ato help the students to improve advanced English integrated skills, to practice techniques in TOFEL and IELTS examinations, and to practice skills for job application. The course includes 5 units about topics of family, social relationships, teaching and learning, cross-cultural communication, and skills for job application.

This compulsory course aims to provide students with knowledge of major issues and concepts in language testing including testing and teaching, kinds of tests, reliability and validity, testing vocabulary and grammar, testing language skills and test administration.
