2.    Argument on ideas given by the affirmative group

One common reason why many pursue secondary education is to have more and better employment opportunities in the future. As stated above, 60% of graduates ended up with jobs differ or not related to their majors in college. The number also concludes the number of students employed in works that do not require a bachelor’s degree, meaning 4-year of college study is basically a waste for most bachelors.

According to the affirmative group, by 2020, two-thirds of all jobs will require postsecondary education, so it is reasonable for us to study in universities. However, post-secondary education also includes trade and vocational schools, not just universities. In 2020, 85% of vocational school graduates were employed instantly after finishing their education. This is because vocational and trade schools have associations with many corporations and manufacturers promising to hire these graduates.  Vocational education is a world-wide trend, determining the workforce productivity and competitiveness of a nation’s economy. It also saves precious time and resources for students. You could skip unnecessary subjects in colleges, focusing only on details of your major, and could even practice professions in the first year of education. Therefore, the time of studying in vocational schools would be lower than that in universities, while the value earned is significantly greater than classes in colleges.

Another reason for entering colleges is to gain greater networking value through the means of joining clubs, charities, and other organizations. From our group perspective, these organizations in universities are mainly founded to boost a student’s relation with others and provide entertaining outdoor activities. It is worth mentioning that most clubs and projects in universities are run by the students themselves, those who substantially lack relevant skills and knowledge to be leaders, resulting in organizations being run in an unprofessional manner. Therefore, it is obvious that students could not gain any valuable experience when joining college clubs.

On the other hand, working at early ages helps individuals to achieve social relations with their co-workers, learning and gaining from their skills and knowledge. Co-workers who have been in the job for years are also very experienced in understanding how a business functions and how to create a professional working environment. They are also those working in areas same as yours, so you could quickly enhance your careers by learning and cooperating with them. Despite providing internship options for students by many universities, these internships usually last for a few months, not enough for a student to achieve any valuable experience.
