Aug / Sept, 2013 Newsletter No. 1 Noble Elementary School

Andrea Ortiz, Diana Carlet – Editors 3466 Grossmont Drive, San Jose 95132

Andrea Ortiz, Principal aortiz@busd.net (408)923-1935 Fax (408)937-5006

Noble School provides a safe and caring environment where everyone enjoys and celebrates childhood and respects diverse values, talents and ethnicity. We promote a variety of experiences that nurture social, emotional, intellectual and academic growth which contributes to the development of independent, cooperative and responsible citizens with high self-esteem and a life long zest for learning.

From the desk of Mrs. Ortiz:
I would like to extend a warm welcome

to all Noble students and parents for the

2013-2014 school year. I am very honored to be your new Principal at Noble School and I look forward to getting to know each of you as we work together to provide our children with a quality educational experience.
The mission of Noble School focuses on: “In Partnership with Families and Community, Noble School helps RAISE all students to become Responsible, Academic, Independent, Successful and Empowered.” Changes among staff have occurred, so I hope you will stop by to say hello and introduce yourself. All staff members dedicate their time and resources to creating a positive educational experience for all students. In the classroom, teachers plan lessons that will increase literacy, expand math problem solving skills, and explore concepts in science and social studies.
VOLUNTEERING supports the academic and social success of all students. All teachers benefit from your resources to support student success, so please collaborate with our staff and PTA to share your talents and resources when needed this year. Please note that all volunteers must have a TB test on file to volunteer at the school. When you decide to volunteer, here are some tips to remember:

  1. Meet your child’s teacher and principal and share your goals as a volunteer

  1. Sign-up to help out at school whenever possible to provide classroom/event assistance, to chaperone on field trips, serve as a career/job guest speaker, prepare materials for distribution, read to children, and/or assist the school in other ways as needed

  1. Attend school functions such as PTA meetings, School Board meetings, School Site Council meetings, conferences, and classroom events

  1. Familiarize yourself and your child with the Family Handbook, including rules concerning attendance, expected student conduct and consequences for violations of School Rules, homework, medications, student safety, appropriate school dress, etc.

Our school appreciates all forms of family support to the children. In addition, Noble has an active PTA that counts on your support for the success of the many programs, activities, and teacher needs not funded by the state of California. Your membership and active participation in PTA also acknowledge to the students and community that you value Noble School as the school for your children. The PTA has set its first meeting date for Monday, September 16th at 6:30 p.m. Everyone plays an important role in the PTA, so please plan to attend.
Please join us also on Thursday, Sept. 19th

for our Back to School Night. This annual

event provides you an opportunity to meet your

child’s teacher, learn about the grade level

curriculum and to understand the educational objectives and procedures of your child’s class. Details regarding the times scheduled for classroom visits will be sent home with your child the week before the event. This Back to School evening is planned for ADULTS only.

Once again, welcome to the 2013-2014 school year here at Noble School.
Sincerely,
Andrea Ortiz, Principal

Enrollment
Class enrollment is temporary until the third week of School. In order to create balanced classes and fluctuation of enrollment, some students may be moved to other rooms and in a few cases, other schools in the district.

STUDENT VERIFICATION FORM :

During the summer the District office mailed to each student a Student Verification Form that needs to be returned to the office no later than Friday, August 30th. These are very important for the office to have on file. Not only do they have all health information for your child, they give us your current contact info in case of an illness, injury or major disaster (e.g. earthquake , fire). If we do not have these on file we may not be able to contact you. Please make sure to return these forms. If you did not receive or misplaced your form, please contact the office at 923-1935.

Punctuality is important
Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time each day. Learning that responsibility of being punctual is a valuable lesson that will help your child be successful in life. It begins with being on time for class. When a child is tardy, he/she may miss valuable directions and information. This can be embarrassing for the student and disruptive to the teacher. Students who are tardy must report to the office for a tardy slip before entering class. We would greatly appreciate it if all parents would plan their morning so that students are on campus prior to the start of class.

Fall Picture Day

Picture day is Sept. 25th.

Order forms will be sent home prior to

picture day. If you wish to order pictures, students must have their payment envelope at the time pictures are taken.

Meal Price Increases for 2013-14:
Lunch price: $2.75

Reduced lunch price: $0.40

If you feel you may qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch, please complete the free and reduced-price meal application you received in the mail and submit it to your child’s school. You may get an application form from the school or the District Office.

Your child’s balance as of the last day of school has carried over to the new school year. If your child has an outstanding negative balance on his/her cafeteria account, please make arrangements to pay the amount owed by sending in a payment (cash or check) to the school or by paying online through www.myschoolbucks.com. Please be reminded that we can only provide one emergency meal to students with negative balances. If payment is not received after that, elementary children will be offered the salad bar and milk, but not the hot entree.

At any time, you may obtain your child’s current balance by: (1) checking on-line at www.myschoolbucks.com, or (2) calling Child Nutrition Services at 923-1875 or 923-1879. If you haven’t done so already, we recommend that you set up an on-line account for your child at www.myschoolbucks.com as a convenient way to review your child’s account balance and transaction history. There is no charge to set-up an account, but there is a $1.95 transaction fee for making an on-line payment.

Thank you for your support!

Traffic Reminders

We continue to ask for everyone’s support and cooperation in following our

traffic procedures. Follow the traffic flow and avoid left turns out of the

driveways if possible. Wait to drop off and pick up students until you are at

the end of the drive-thru area. There are safety patrol students and teachers

to assist. If you are walking, please model safety to your child by using the

crosswalk, and please do not jay-walk. Do not park in red zones or in the dirt

area near the Kindergarten playground. Thank you for your understanding and help!
