Principal’s Notes:
Hello Cherrywood Families,
Can you believe it is November already? Time sure does fly when you’re having fun teaching and learning new concepts. I wanted to share some exciting news with you. Cherrywood made a 10 point gain on their California Standards test or CST! What is even more exciting than our score of 852, all of our subgroups met their annual yearly progress (AYP) goal! We are only 1 of 2 schools in the district that achieved this! That has frozen us in year 1 of Program Improvement (the program for improvement that you are placed in after 2 years of the school or smaller subgroups not meeting your goals). This means we do not move on into year 2. If we make the same type of growth on our current year’s testing, we can then be removed as a Program Improvement school. This is awesome news! I applaud all of the hard work of the teachers, students and parents who all must work together to raise successful thriving students. Give yourself a congratulatory pat on the back and let’s continue this hard work together.
As we move into the holiday season, let’s remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves. This is a great time to for giving, sharing and caring and for having these important discussions with your family. You could do something kind for others such as donating food to your local food bank, volunteering at a homeless shelter, donating your clothes and toys to others. We are so very thankful for all that you do here for us at Cherrywood. We appreciate you and wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving season.
Sincerely,
LaKeisha Blackshire, Principal
Parent Conferences
DECEMBER 7-14, 2012
Your parent-teacher conference should be scheduled on one of these dates. At that time, you will receive information from your child’s teacher on his/her academic progress. This first conference time is very important for parents, the child, and the teacher. I would like to encourage parents to make every effort to attend this important meeting so you and your child’s teacher can exchange information on how he/she is doing at this point in the year. If you need verification for your employer that you were attending a school function, please stop by our office and we can provide this information for you.
Please note that during the week of parent conferences we will be on adjusted day schedule on all of these dates.
Kindergarten 8:15-12:15pm
First to Fifth 8:15 – 1:00pm

Our staff and

Please respect our efforts to keep everyone safe. Bad language, rudeness, rude gestures and unsafe driving are inappropriate and not appreciated by staff or students who are trying to do their jobs. License plate numbers of vehicles whose drivers are rude or exhibit unsafe driving will be turned over to the San Jose Police Department, School Safety division, for follow-up.

PARTY TREATS
In an effort to ensure safety at Cherrywood School, we ask that all treats that are brought in by parents for their child’s parties (birthday, holidays, etc.) be store bought, no homemade. In the case of a student allergy or question of whether a child can eat something, we have the ingredients on the package.
Box Tops for Education
Interested in an easy way to help out our school? It's as simple as clipping the Box Top Coupons from participating packages and bringing them to the office or your child's teacher. Our coordinator will do the rest. Box Top Coupons can be found on the packaging of many common household items from cereals to storage bags. For a complete list visit boxtops4education.com.
Bear Hugs
Each week, our
teachers select a
student from their class to receive special recognition with a Bear Hug certificate. Students
may be recognized for effort, being
a friend, academic excellence and
many other things. Students, also,
receive a pencil, and a hug or high five from the Cherrywood Bear. Thanks, again, to Ms. G. Lulu for reviving our Cherrywood Bear for our students.
COMING SOON…
Please mark your calendar and plan to attend a parent training class called RAISING THRIVING STUDENTS on
