Escorting the Bride to the Grooms House Vietnamese Transcript: Người phỏng vấn: Thế thì cái lễ rước dâu buổi sáng thì thường tiến hành vào buổi sáng. Nó có những bước như thế nào? Người được phỏng vấn: Thường thường lễ rước dâu, đặc biệt là ở Việt Nam là truyền thống là cảm thấy đậm đà nhất. Người Việt của mình cũng cố gắng giữ truyền thống đó. Thì khoảng tới đúng giờ đó thì xe chú rể sẽ tới. Chú rể sẽ dẫn đầu một đoàn, gọi là đoàn trai, thì trong đoàn trai sẽ có ba má chú rể, người chứng hôn, rồi thêm những rể phụ bưng quả, như là bưng sính vật đến nhà cô dâu, rồi thêm họ hàng nhà chú rể. Thì khi mà tới nhà cô dâu thì sẽ có tục trao quả, tức là dâu phụ đứng ra thì rể phụ trao quả cho dâu phụ, rồi bưng quả vô nhà. Thì lúc đó, khi mà chú rể đã vô được nhà rồi, thì mẹ mới dẫn cô dâu ra chào ra mắt đàng trai, đàng gái. Hết rồi thì cô dâu, chú rể thắp nhang lạy ông bà. Thủ tục rước dâu diễn ra, rồi trao nhẫn cưới, rồi người chứng hôn thì nói như là chứng nhận hai con cưới nhau, rồi bắt đầu mới tới cái phần mà ba mẹ, anh chị em và họ hàng gửi quà cho cô dâu, chú rể, như là cái gì đó để cô dâu, chú rể bắt đầu một cuộc sống mới, tạo dựng nên một gia đình mới trong xã hội. English Translation: Interviewer: So the tradition is to escort the bride to the groom’s house in the morning. What are the steps? Interviewee: It is escorting the bride to the groom’s house that Vietnamese traditions are felt most strongly. Vietnamese people all try to maintain those traditions. At exactly that time [the time that the fortune teller says is good], the groom’s car arrives [at the bride’s house]. The groom leads a group, the groom’s group, which consists of his parents, an officiiant, groomsmen who bring gifts, and his extended family. In the bride’s house, groomsmen pass gifts to bridesmaids. When the groom has entered the house, the bride’s mother escorts the bride to greet the groom’s parents. Then the groom and bride burn incense sticks and prostrate themselves before the family altar. Then the couple exchanges wedding rings. Then the certifier confirms the marriage. After that, both families give gifts to the couple as a way of helping them build a new family.
