0665. Tác giả chính: Gary S. Gregg
Nhan đề: Culture and identity in a Muslim society / Gary S. Gregg
Số phân loại : 155.20964 G109; Đặc điểm vật lý: 369 p. : ill., maps ; 25 cm
*Tóm tắt : Culture and Identity in a Muslim Society presents an alternative to the individualist- collectivist approach to identity. Unlike most psychological and anthropological studies of culture and self, Gary Gregg's work directly investigates individuals, using "study of lives"-style interviews with young adults living in villages and small towns in southern Morocco. Analyzing these young adults' life-narratives, Gregg builds a theory of culture and identity that differs from prevailing psychological and anthropological models in important respects. In contrast to modernist theories of identity as unified, the life-narratives show individuals to articulate a small set of shifting identities. In contrast to post-modern theories that claim people have a kaleidoscopic multiplicity of fluid identities, the narratives show that the identities are integrated by repeated use of culturally-specific self-symbols, metaphors, and story-plots. Most importantly, the life-narratives show these young Moroccans' self-representations to be pervasively shaped by the volatile cultural struggle between Western-style "modernity" and authentic Muslim "tradition."      .

Nhan đề: Childhood and adolescence: Voyages in Developmental / Spencer A. Rathus
Số phân loại : 155.4 Sp203; Đặc điểm vật lý: 578 p. : ill. ; 28 cm
*Tóm tắt : This work presents the facts, theories, and processes of developmental psychology in an easy-to-read style. The main points of the major theories are described, compared to other theories, their strengths and weaknesses are shown, and it is made clear when conflicts have not been resolved. The book presents the psychoanalytic, behaviouristic, cognitive-developmental, ecological, and behaviour genetic fundamentals. It then illustrates how various theoretical viewpoints, though sometimes in opposition, all bring validity to the point being made. The book is organized topically to focus intently on developmental processes and to provide students with an uninterrupted view of the sequences of change that children and adolescents experience within each developmental domain. It stresses the fundamental interplay among biological, cognitive, social, and cultural influences of each aspect of development, so students do not lose sight of the whole person and the holistic character of human development      .

Nhan đề: Paving pathways : child and adolescent development / Laurel Hughes
Số phân loại : 155.4 L111; Đặc điểm vật lý: xx, 556 p. : ill. ; 26 cm
*Tóm tắt : This is a student-centered, applied text, providing a chronologically organized introduction to the main age stages, research, and theories of child/adolescent development. Ideal for courses which train future childcare workers, teachers, social workers and counselors, applied health professionals, and especially future parents. The pedagogical plan is simplified to reduce distracting "clutter," containing photos and illustrations limited to only those that directly support key concepts. The student-centered tone is further amplified when considering the vast array of teaching and learning supplements that support it and the low price with which it is offered, typically 15-20 less than any other text on the market      .

0671. Tác giả chính: Peter J. LaFreniere
Nhan đề: Emotional development : a biosocial perspective / Peter J. LaFreniere
Số phân loại : 155.4124 P207; Đặc điểm vật lý: 331 p. : ill. ; 25 cm
*Tóm tắt : Emotional Development is an area that has seen an explosion of research over the past 15 years. One of the central themes of this book is that emotions must be understood in an integrative way because of their complex connections with biological, cognitive, and social processes, all of which undergo development. Because of this essential unity, emotional development is discussed, not as a separate aspect of the self, but as intimately linked to cognitive, linguistic, social, and personality development. This book also defines and describes a biosocial perspective on emotional development. This biosocial perspective emphasizes the vital functions that emotions serve, illustrating the necessity of uniting nature and nurture in order to more fully understand the development and function of human emotions      .
