John 6:1-15

- Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. The Jewish feast of Passover was near. When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people recline.” Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted. When they had their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.” So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.” Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

- Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay thuật lại Chúa làm phép lạ với hai con cá và năm cái bánh để cho nhiều người ăn. Chúa Giêsu quan tâm đến nhu cầu tinh thần lẫn vật chất của dân chúng, vì thế họ thích đến với Chúa để nghe lời Ngài dạy. Con người chúng ta không chỉ sống bằng tinh thần mà thôi nhưng còn sống nhờ vật chất nữa. Vậy khi chúng ta giúp đỡ ai về nhu cầu vật chất là cách biểu lộ tình thương và tạo điều kiện cho họ có một cuộc sống tương đối đầy đủ.

- Today’s Gospel relates to when Jesus performed a miracle with two fish and five loaves. He was concerned with their spiritual and material needs and that was why they came to listen to Him. As human we not only live spiritually but also materially; therefore if we can help others with their material needs, it is a way to show them our love and concern in helping them to create a fairly sufficient live.

1- Tại sao Chúa Giêsu hỏi các ông “Chúng ta mua đâu ra bánh cho họ ăn đây?”

2- Khi rao giảng Lời Chúa, mà chúng ta không chú ý đến những đau khổ và những nhu cầu cấp bách của con người, thì việc giảng dạy của chúng ta có kết quả không?

Reflection:

1- Why did Jesus ask his disciples where they could buy enough food for the people to eat?

2- Would our preaching yield effective results if we preach without paying attention to people’s needs and suffering?

Thực Hành:

- Hãy hãm mình không ăn vặt để cầu nguyện xin Chúa thứ tha tội lỗi của chúng ta.

- Try to give up eating snacks and pray to God to forgive our sins.

- Lạy Chúa Giêsu. Chúa đã dung tình thương để đến với những người tội lỗi, cùng khổ và đưa họ về cùng Chúa Cha. Xin cho chúng con biết ý thức hơn về nhu cầu của những người anh em khốn khổ và giúp đỡ họ vì Chúa. Amen.
